In stock
A lightweight cotton scarf hand-patterned with eleko starch resist and dipped repeatedly in natural indigo. The fine repeating motif softens beautifully with wear, making this an easy everyday accent or a considered gift. Approximately 180 × 50 cm, finished with hand-rolled edges.
Delivery: dispatched from Nigeria within 3–5 working days; costs shown at checkout.
Secure payment: processed by Paystack. We never see your card details.
The story behind the piece
Each scarf begins as plain white cotton. The pattern is drawn in warm cassava paste, left to dry in the Abeokuta sun, then dipped into the indigo vat up to a dozen times. When the paste is washed away, the protected lines remain pale against the blue — a technique handed down through generations of Yoruba dyers.
Materials & care
100% cotton, dyed with indigo. Hand wash cold, separately, with a mild soap. Dry in the shade. Some colour transfer is natural in the first washes. Iron on a medium setting.
How to use it
Wear knotted at the neck, draped over the shoulders or tied to a bag handle. Generous enough to use as a light wrap on cooler evenings.
Shipping & returns
Made and dispatched from Nigeria within 3–5 working days. Delivery times and costs are confirmed at checkout. If your piece arrives damaged or is not as described, contact us within 7 days of delivery and we will arrange a replacement or refund. Because each piece is hand-dyed, small variations in pattern and shade are part of its character and are not considered faults.
Meet the maker
Abeni Indigo Studio works from a courtyard dye house in Abeokuta, where indigo vats are tended daily and every length of cloth is patterned by hand. The studio specialises in eleko, the cassava-starch resist technique, drawing motifs freehand or through cut-metal stencils before the cloth is dipped again and again to build a deep, even blue.
